We call it the “I Have a Dream” speech. Did you know the dream part was something he added on the spur of the moment. It wasn’t written into the speech he gave that day on the steps of The Lincoln Memorial. In fact, the great gospel singer Mahalia Jackson was standing behind Dr. King urging him to “tell them about the dream Martin.” Dr. King decided to do as Mahalia was telling him and he started to speak from his heart and share one of the dreams he had experienced and that gave us the part of the speech that we often reference.
