Democratic presidential frontrunner is known for having strong support from African-Americans. For proof, just look at how much of the Black vote she won during the South Carolina primary in February: 86 percent versus Bernie Sanders’ measly 14 percent, the Atlantic noted.

But the chilly reception to Clinton’s recent appearance at BET’s Black Girls Rock Awards didn’t seem that all the Black folks are down with the HRC. Yes, she received a standing ovation as Vibe pointed out, but look at the folks in the front row…

Yikes. Did you those faces though?

Perhaps it bothered some that for an event honoring the best and the brightest of Black women including Rihanna, Shonda Rhimes, Danai Gurira, Amandla Stenberg, and Black Lives Matter’s Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, that Clinton, a white woman, was given airtime at the mic.

Granted, Clinton used her time wisely talking about how Black women have impacted her life.

“Black women are change makers and path makers and ground shakers. My life has been changed by strong black women leaders, from Marian Wright Edelman to Dorothy Height to Maya Angelou,” she said.

She also talked about the obstacles that many Black women face today. “There are still a lot of barriers holding back African-Americans and Black women in particular, so a gathering like this filled with so many powerful, strong women is a rebuke to every single one of those barriers,” she said. “All of our kids, no matter what zip code they live in, deserve a good teacher and a good school, a safe community and clean water to drink.”

But even that couldn’t keep Black Twitter from trying to snatch her edges clean off:

Or to express what some believe is hypocrisy:

Either way, Clinton didn’t just show up out of the blue and steal the mic. She was invited by some pretty important Black women involved with the network and the show itself. So if folks are upset with Clinton’s presence, not all of the blame can be placed on Clinton herself. She was only walking through a door that was so graciously opened for her.
