Drug dealer is preparing packet of heroin or cocaine

Another day, another politician puts their foot in their mouth.

This time it was Maine’s polarizing governor, Paul LePage, who was in the hot seat for making some questionable racial comments. Earlier this week at a town meeting in Bridgton, Maine, LePage addressed the heroin epidemic that is sweeping his small New England state blaming out-of-state drug dealers.

He said, “These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty — these types of guys — they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,” NBC reported. He added, “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”

Obviously these comments raised some eyebrows, with folks from both political parties shaking their heads and demanding an apology. Even Democratic Presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s camp weighed in, saying that “LePage’s racist rants sadly distract from efforts to address one of our nation’s most pressing problems.”

On Friday, LePage, who supporters are mostly Tea Party members, pedaled back, admitting that he was speaking off the cuff and that his “brain didn’t catch up to my mouth.” He also claimed that “instead of [saying] Maine women I said white women. … If you go to Maine, you can see it’s 95 percent white…so I apologize to Maine women for that,” the New York Times pointed out.

However, there was no apology for stereotypically characterizing drug dealers as African-American or of color, claiming that wasn’t his never intention because he doesn’t know “if they’re white, black, Asian.”

Um, OK Sir.

This isn’t LePage’s first time making out of whack comments. According to the NY Times, he once said that President Obama “could go to hell” and once told his state’s NAACP chapter to “kiss my butt.”

Real classy.
