The weather outside may be frightful, but the right favors can make your winter wedding reception delightful.

Hitting up a banging wedding reception is a joy, but lugging home a cute favor you don’t know what to do with is not. What the heck are you friends, family, and loved ones supposed to do with a single tiny candle or place card holder?

That’s why the #1 rule when picking out wedding favors is that you need to give the people something they can use! Scroll down for a few ideas about how to break away from the usual set of goodies.

1. Blankets

A nice little throw is cozy reminder that love is all around you. When you think about it, isn’t that what you want people to remember the most about your wedding? You don’t have to get them specially embroidered, but you can find them in colors that are complimentary to your color scheme.

2. Gloves

Everyone needs a good pair of gloves (or mittens) when the weather gets cold. Unfortunately, picking up a pair is often at the bottom of our list of priorities. Do your guests a favor by picking up a pair of knit gloves to set in each chair. They can slip them in a pocket or a purse so that they always have some on-hand when the weather gets a bit nippy.

3. Holiday Cookie Kit

Nothing quite says Happy Holidays like sugar cookies. They’re warm, they’re soft, they’re sweet, they’re delicious–just like love! It’s a lot of work to put these together since you need to create a mason jar of all the dry ingredients before attaching a recipe and cookie cutter, but they’re a sweet memento of your wedding.

4. Snowflake Wine Stoppers

If you’re looking for something a little more elegant, these snowflake wine stopper from Beau-Coup may be the way to go. They offer your guests a different way to preserve their wine after the cork is gone, and they can use the stopper as a functional decoration for their own holiday parties. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

5. Mug

This is a nice seasonal spin on the idea of using your guest stemware as a favor. Instead of giving them a wine glass or a champagne flute, you can give them a personalized mug. Pack a little extra punch by placing a mini bottle of rum or brandy in the mug along with a hot toddie recipe. Put a hot chocolate packet in there for your guests under 21.

BONUS: Hot Chocolate Ornaments

If you’re up for a project (or, more accurately, if you’re up for giving your bridesmaids a project), giving your guests an ornament full of hot cocoa mix is a unique idea. Head over to Bubbly Nature Creations on Pinterest to see how your can put them together.
