The gunman who killed nine people in Oregon was specifically targeting Christians, one of the victims’ fathers tells CNN.

The fatalities were identified as follows:

Lucero Alcaraz, 19; Treven Taylor Anspach, 20; Rebecka Ann Carnes, 18; Quinn Glen Cooper, 18; Kim Saltmarsh Dietz, 59; Lucas Eibel, 18; Jason Dale Johnson, 33; Lawrence Levine, 67 (teacher); Sarena Dawn Moore, 44.

In a chilling update on the shooting, it seems that the gunman, whose name we will not print so as not to give him the fame he likely sought, was asking people questions to determine their religion before shooting them.

“’Are you a Christian?’ He would ask them, ‘and if you are a Christian, stand up,’” Stacy Boylan, father of victim Anastasia Boylan said his daughter told him before she went into surgery.

“And when they would stand up, he said, ‘Good, because you’re a Christian, you’re going to see God in just about one second.”

“And then she shot and killed them,” her father said she told him.

Boylan was shot in the back, but survived. She told her father that the gunman walked into the classroom and told her professor, “I’ve been waiting to do this for years,” before shooting him point-blank.

The shooter reportedly was armed with large amounts of ammunition, as well as body armor. According to his father, he had served briefly in the military before being discharged and had sought mental help previously.

His family was “devastated,” according to reports.

The gunman reportedly also wrote blog posts expressing how gunmen who kill more people get “more [time] in the limelight.”

Community members and friends and family of the victims held a candlelit vigil Thursday, honoring those who were killed in the shooting. The victims’ names, however, have not been released.

President Obama expressed deep remorse at the idea that we have become “numb” to school shootings across the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers are not enough. It’s not enough. It does not capture the heartache and grief and anger that we should feel, and it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America — next week, or a couple months from now.”
