UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:
People are aware of behavior that is harmful to the life of a community. What can be done to build and maintain the health of a community? Ezekiel advised confession and, along with the book of Proverbs, exhorted the people to do the right thing and thereby build a just community.
People feel doomed to destruction because our fathers and mothers have “eaten sour grapes.” The reality borne out in the lesson is that God holds each generation and person personally responsible and accountable for how he/she lives. God does not hold my daughters responsible for my sins. Rather, they must account to God for the lives they have lived. Armed with this truth, we can rise up and overcome the brokenness that has shattered our society and heal the breach between Heaven and Earth. Look for ways that you can live out the call of God to justice and righteousness.
Lord, may we recognize that we are individually responsible for our sins. Let us not look to the past for excuses to justify our failure to walk upright before You. Grant us the will and determination to practice justice and righteousness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
