Rope Of Silicon has Rick Famuyiwa, director of the Sundance-hit Dope, as another possible name to helm Black Panther in addition to DuVernay. Currently DuVernay is the only director revealed to be in the running for Captain Marvel. It is possible Famuyiwa could end up directing Black Panther and DuVernay Captain Marvel, which would send a great message about opening up doors for directors of color. If chosen, DuVernay would be the first Black woman to direct a Marvel film and Famuyiwa the first Black man.

DuVernay has some experience with superhero films as she did ‘promotional services’ for Spiderman 2. She is currently in the middle of a fundraising drive for the collective AFFRM (African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement), which pushes to have more diversity in Hollywood and supports Black filmmakers.
