UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE: Even when people admit their shortcomings, they are often ostracized by others and receive no justice. Where can they get strength and reassurance? Job and the psalmist proclaimed that no matter what happens, God, the Redeemer, lives and constantly sends forth steadfast love to all people.
CONCLUDING REFLECTION: It has been said that appearance matters; it has also been said that looks can be deceiving—and indeed they can be. From the appearance of things, Job’s friends were certain that Job had sinned, yet without hesitation, Job defended his righteousness with confidence and was certain that one day he would be redeemed by his “Redeemer.”
Almighty and everlasting God, our Father, we give thanks for Your steadfast love that keeps us even when the appearance of things suggests otherwise. Lord, help us to remain steadfast in our faith when our “dark night of the soul” experiences come upon us. Help us to see the reality of Your love, even when life says otherwise. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
