The hype train for the 20th anniversary of rapper Nasir “Nas” Jones’ seminal work “Illmatic” continues to chug along with the release of a trailer for the documentary “Time Is Illmatic.”

    

Directed by One9the documentary follows Jones from his upbringing in Queens to the fateful release of “Illmatic” in 1994 by Columbia Records. Figures from Pharrell Williams to Alicia Keys to Busta Rhymes and Jones’ own father, jazz artist Olu Dara Jones, speak on the impact of his album and the wide influence it’s had.

Jones will be taking the film on tour as a part of his announced set of shows where he’ll be performing the entirety of “Illmatic” live along with a screening. The tour starts on October 2 in Rochester and ends October 22 in Los Angeles. The film will be released to theaters some time in October.
