UNIFYING PRINCIPLE:

People have expectations and hopes regarding their descendants. What assurance do people have that their line of descendants will continue? As God promised David and as Isaiah prophesied, Matthew reported that the birth of Jesus fulfills the traditional expectation that a descendant of David would be coming as the Savior.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

Christians believe in the Virgin Birth. The Scriptures affirm that Jesus was not just a prophet, preacher, and faith healer; rather, He was, is, and always will be God, who became a living human being in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the only way to God. We know that the only answer to the problems of this world is not more legislation, bank bailouts, job bills, sealed borders, drug rehabilitation programs or more and better schools. No, the answer is Jesus! Jesus saves!

PRAYER:

Lord God almighty, teach us how to trust You in the narrow places of life. When our hopes and dreams have been shattered by the unseen and unpredictable, bless us to wait before You for grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

WORD POWER:

Holiness – the words holiness and holy are words that are rich in spiritual depth and theological importance. They literally mean “apartness, separateness, or sacredness.
